Lots of people nowadays search for ways to keep fit and improve their well-being. Seeing that the world unfortunately is getting more and more obese over the years might make us think that it will be very hard. That’s why it’s very important to know the rules behind healthy eating how to apply them.
Lalonde, who was a famous researcher in this topic, determined that over 50% of our general health is only up to our decisions and lifestyle!
To live healthy doesn’t necessarily mean being cut off from our favorite snacks, you can eat some from time to time, but they shouldn’t contribute to more than 20% of your diet.
The current problem of obesity is mainly caused by the fact that we eat too many calories. Portions are getting bigger and bigger. To deal with this issue we need to eat smaller portions and do so regularly so that blood sugar level is stable and doesn’t fluctuate. Having a good schedule is beneficial to that. It is generally recommended to have 5 meals in a day, spaced out about 3-4 hours from each other.
We also need to drink at least one and a half liter of water per day. Energy drinks and other high-in-sugar beverages are not a good substitute. People often underrate water, although drinking it is an important part of a healthy diet. Mineral water with lots of magnesium and calcium ions will help your physical development. Studies show that even 1% dehydration can decrease your brain activity by 15%, meaning that in order to keep the pace of your work, you should drink a glass of water every hour.
As a fun fact, did you know that by eating healthy you can boost your productivity levels even by 20%? That’s a lot! Because of that, it’s very important for students to eat healthy if they want to study effectively.
According to studies, most students in Poland bring self-made sandwiches to school. These are quick to make, easy to pack as lunch and are generally a good option. But a “powerful” sandwich won’t contain only ham, butter and two slices of bread. Make sure you also add some vegetables, such as lettuce, tomatoes and onion. Using whole grain, dark bread will make it even better.
Coffee is one of the most popular drinks that’s supposed to give a quick energy boost, and is generally considered to be safe and healthy. But drinking it past 4 PM may cause you to become even more tired than before, quite contrary to what you would expect.
Another thing to note is that chocolate bars or mainly snacks containing a lot of sugar only give us a short burst of energy that quickly runs away over a period of 1-2 hours leaving us even more exhausted. That’s why it’s better to eat a proper meal.
Try to make your diet more balanced and varied, eating different types of food will supply your organism with the nutrients that it needs.
Unhealthy lifestyle may cause a lot of health problems, such as obesity or various mental illnesses. Taking care of your diet and making conscious decisions can reduce the risk of these problems. It’s alarming to see the global obesity levels become higher and higher each year.
